A map journey to past centuries

Now you have a unique opportunity to explore Jämsä and its surrounding regions through old maps. With the help of the maps you can follow progress from the middle of the 17th century. Have a look, for example, at the map called Jämse sokens Affritningh, drawn by the Uudenmaa and Häme Province Surveyor Jonas Streng. Some surprising names can be found in the village list of the Jämsä parish of that time.

The maps are grouped by theme. Each theme has a short introduction and the gallery contains many interesting maps.

Click on the maps for a larger view and zoom in by moving the mouse on the map. Some of the maps are quite large so it will take a moment for them to download. They are worth the wait!

Go on a journey of discovery!
