Furniture
The furniture in a smoke cottage was sparse; benches by the walls, a table and beds, and a shelf or cabinet on one wall. Later, as the room number of the houses grew, more furniture was needed. When forestry work was done in the winter, the master of the house would select and put aside the wood needed for furniture. The wood was then sawn into planks and allowed to dry for a few years, in the end on the rafters of the cabin. During the winter, numerous pieces of furniture, tools and other implements were made from this wood. |
